RUNNING

Balanced Nutrition
Running is a skill. To consider something a skill you have to believe there is a right and a wrong way to do it, the standard and a deviation, and that the right way can be taught and developed. For a long time running form has been thought of as something intrinsic and unique to each individual, and consequently it has not been taught with any detail, except to elite athletes. There is a natural way to run, the way we were born to run, but the apparently simple act of running is now a skill that has to be taught because of the modern training shoe! With its built-up heel and motion control the training shoe has enabled poor technique, heel striking, muscle atrophy, and limited sensory feedback from the feet. We have been running incorrectly for so long it’s no longer natural for us to run the way nature intended. We must re-learn the skill of running.

Improve your running
Starting with a bio-mechanical assessment and a video analysis of your current technique, I will put in place a structured programme to improve your technique and enhance your running efficiency to help you achieve the joyful experience of strong, skilful, injury free running. You will learn to run faster and further than you ever have before.

Trail running
Trail running brings a whole new dimension to the running experience. Many clients have found that as their running skill develops they want to escape from the streets and parks of the city and out into the freedom of the country and the open trail. I will teach you how to run efficiently and effectively on trails, from field to moorland to mountain, and even give you the confidence to fly down a mountain trail fast and confidently and safely. I will also advise on gear, from shoes to baselayers to running packs, and on additional skills such as route planning and navigation for runners.

Ultra running
I have a specialist interest in ultra and endurance events and in the skills, technique and fitness – both physical and mental – required successfully to complete a 50 mile plus event. If you are ready to experience the challenge and the joy (and the suffering!) of an ultra, or want to improve your current performance, I can train you to succeed.
